question: Are US politicians bought, leased, or rented?
Leased.
Out of the three, this is the one that makes more sense, in my opinion.
"Bought" implies a long-term relationship and would require the politician to be on top of his/her game while remaining clean on standards like morality and ethics. Yes, that's unlikely to happen.
"Rented" implies a relatively short relationship and may not be as committed as both parties want it to be, renewals may be up to just one party which would make another party rather unsettled and nervous, thus rattling the foundation of the whole business enterprise.
"Leased" has a more weight from the ownership perspective, a deeper involvement, yet of a finite duration, and would require some time to untangle (to get out of), giving both parties more leverage and forcing better commitment and care.
